Widam Home Delivery: An ERPNext E-commerce and Delivery Case Study
Widam Home Delivery needed connected software for grocery and FMCG ordering, payments and delivery operations. Akwad Programming’s work covered the e-commerce backend, mobile application features and operational workflows built around ERPNext.
The operational challenge
An online order moves through several teams: the customer chooses products and a delivery address, payment is confirmed, items are prepared, and a driver completes the delivery. The software must support these connected steps while keeping product, order and delivery information available to the people who need it.
What Akwad delivered
Our e-commerce work included a REST API layer for product groups, categories, product details, search, shopping carts, addresses, orders and subscriptions. The application work also covered homepage layouts, product options with price modifiers and product recommendations.
Payments and customer communication
The engagement included CyberSource Secure Acceptance, QPay payment forms and refund processing, payment response handling, Apple Pay, Google Pay and payment tokenisation. Digital wallet and loyalty points features were also part of the work. Customer communication included WhatsApp notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging and Branch.io deep links.
From order preparation to delivery
Operational development covered a Delivery Pool, Delivery Trip management, automatic trip creation, trip sorting and routing, driver tracking on maps, and automatic Pick List creation. Barcode support, polygon geofencing and delivery timeslots helped represent the practical requirements of preparation and delivery. The wider engagement included GIS and ArcGIS vehicle-routing integrations.
Supporting a live platform
Akwad’s work extended to performance optimisation, application caching, production server setup, data migration, print formats, testing and quality assurance. This illustrates why an e-commerce project needs a plan for ongoing operations as well as the customer-facing app.
What this means for a delivery business in Qatar
Start by mapping the journey from checkout to fulfilment and delivery confirmation. Identify who owns each step, which records must stay connected, and how exceptions such as payment failures or delivery changes will be handled. These requirements should guide the ERP, app and integration scope.
